The Less Ordinary Team

Phil Bolton

Welcome to Less Ordinary Living - my name is Phil Bolton.

I set up Less Ordinary Living in 2008 to work with ambitious, talented people wanting to make the most of their potential. I'm a professional coach with four years experience helping clients take control of their career and bring their business ideas to life.

After graduating from Cambridge, I qualified as an accountant and spent the first 10 years of my career in client service with Deloitte in both London and San Francisco.
I took a leap of faith to change career and in 2007 I qualified as a coach with the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching.
I worked as an in-house coach with Deloitte for a year supporting leaders and high potential professionals in taking their career to the next level.

I specialize in helping professionals who are looking to find a new challenges from their work.  They create careers and businesses that are enjoyable, meaningful and fit with their personal goals.

It's exciting to see the huge changes that my clients make.

I've worked with clients from organizations including Bain, McKinsey, Deloitte, KPMG, HP, Merrill-Lynch, Alliance Bernstein, and various law firms.

I also love working with entrepreneurs and creative professionals, and have helped my clients conceive, establish and grow their successful businesses.

Carla Miller (Associate)

In 2006 I reached a point where the career I had always loved in the charity sector no longer made me happy.  I'd led the fundraising teams for some great charities, been a director at 29 and raised over £20 million for good causes but I still felt there was something missing.

I took some time out and had a great time exploring new ideas and activities but I felt increasingly frustrated at not being able to decide what I was meant to do next with my life.  A career coach helped me to get out of the cycle of frustration, make plans and take action to create the successful portfolio career that I have and love today.

Coaching had such an impact on me that I trained as a coach in 2008 and have been running my coaching practice since then.  Many of my clients are successful professionals who have achieved their career goals they'd set themselves and now want something more.  They want a working life that reflects who they are and what they love to do.  I enjoy helping my clients move away from indecision and create careers and busines that get them leaping out of bed in the morning.

Hedeel Mahdi-King (Associate)

I guess it's no surprise I love coaching professionals and business owners.

I grew up in an entrepreneurial family and was always up to my elbows in running the business, from research and development through to the "what to do when things go wrong" stage.

After university I qualified as a lawyer and paid my dues spending six years working in the City, mainly for Allen & Overy.

I've always found that people came to me to ask for my input and advice on developing their careers.  Over the last few years I've helped a wide range of people turn their ideas in to living, breathing businesses and helped established business owners to grow to the next level.

I love working with a range of backgrounds - recently my clients have come from professions including law, banking, architecture, catering and e-commerce and moved into completely different careers including agriculture, design, personal styling and event organization.

Each success story makes me more passionate about helping others achieve what they want, and most importantly a life that they love to wake up to - challenges, stretches and all!

I specialize in:

  • Working with individuals who feel trapped to take stock of their life and create a more fulfilling reality.
  • Helping people who want to be self-employed make the leap.
  • Working with people to turn their ideas and energy into living, breathing start-up businesses.
  • Helping independently owned companies grow, diversify and consolidate their offering.
